Author(s):

  • James Balfour of Pittendreich

Incipit:

  • The law is divydit in thrie [and then:] pairtis

Ius proprium Scotiae - Practicks (general digest of law, systematic) .

Neat handwriting. The titles are not numbered, but the individual chapters in them are consecutively numbered within each title. All chapters bear headings, written above them. In contrast to the printed edition, the present MS preserves more of the texts of Balfour's abstracts of Acts of Parliament. Whereas the edition converts such texts into mere references to printed editions of statutes, from the title 'Of beggaris' onwards, the present MS still provides full texts in the title 'Of coniunctfie' (pag. 136 and 138) and even in the title 'Of prescription' which corresponds to page 148 of the printed edition.

(Pag. 1-2) Preface, mentioning King David.

(Pag. 2 -725) Main text
