[{i}Text:{/i}] The Lords of Secreit Counsall, considering how that be the exercise of the art of paper making of all sortis within this realme not only sall our soverane Lords leigis be weill and suffecentlie furneist, bot the zowth and utheris his hienes leigis being traint up and exercisit in the said airt sall at leist cum to that perfectioun and knawledg that thai sul be able to exercise the same be tham selffis, to the greit honour of his majesteis proffeit and common dewtie of all estaitis of personis within this realme. Quharfoir the saids Lords hes gevin and grantit and be thir presentis gevis and grantis licence and previleg to Peter Graetheare, Almane, and his parteneris quhatsumever allanerlie, and nane utheris, to use and exercice the said airt of making of papir of all sortis within quhatsumever part of this realme in tyme cumming, at his plesour, during the space of nyne zeirs nixt to cum efter the dait theirof. During the said space the saids Lords hes inhebitt and dischairgit and be their presentis inhebittis and dischairgis all and sindrie his maiesties legis and uthers strangers quhatsumever of all using or exerceing of the said airt within ony part of this realme, under the paine of confiscatioun of all the paper to be maid be thame, the ane halff to his maiestie and the uther to the said Peter and his partinaris awine use ... And that lettres be direct to mak publicatioun of the premisses to all and sindrie his hienes leigis be oppin proclamatioun at the mercat croices of the heid burrowis of this realme and utheris places neidfull
