[{i}Text:{/i}] Unto your Lordships humblie meanis and schewis I, your servitour Mr. John Corsane, lait Provest of Drumfreis, that quhere I, having ane action and exhibition before your Lordships of certane wryts aganst Jonat Lawrie, widow in Drumfreis, quhich being referred to her oath and a day taken to produce her, there was a false and most unjust testificat made up be Mr. John Irving, her agent, with concourse of John Maxwell, her (iy, {i}abbreviation{/i}), toune clerke of Drumfreis, Martin Newall bailzie, ther maried to her husbands neece, and William McKittrick bailzie their father in law, to her awin sone, quhairby hey testifie that the said Janat Lawrie was not able to travell from Drumfreis to Edinburgh. And the said agent or soune of themselfe hes put to the said William McKittricks name, quho could never wryte. And farder, the testificat is most false for all the three persons and Janat Lawrie herselffe were all in Edinburgh at that tyme in December i.m. vi.c. sixtie fyve in good health, walking up and doune the streets, affrontedlie and impudentlie giving in a petition to your Lordship, balked with the said testificat ... the foirsaid testificat being both false in the matter and counterfait in the subscription. And your petitioner sall ever pray, etc. etc
