It is to be notet that they quha hes wretin this volume (heir?) conteinid, of befoir hes divydit the samen in four[!] partis in this maner:

The ferst buik is intituled 'De [{i}cancelled:{/i} jud] legibus' [{i}dealing with persons, and beforehand with a person's offices as legislator, governor, judge{/i}].

The second buik 'De actionibus' [{i}dealing with substantive law which may give rise to litigation - such as contracts and delicts{/i}].

[{i}One line left free for the title of the third book.{/i}].

The ferd buik 'de [{i}cancelled:{/i} actionibus civilibus] iudiciis' [{i}dealing with general rules of civil procedure - almost all of them taken over from the Jus Commune{/i}].

The fyft buik 'De actionibus civilibus' [{i}explaining particular Scottish forms of civil procedure: breives{/i}].

The sixt buik 'De actionibus criminalibus' [{i}explaining criminal law and criminal procedure{/i}].

The sevinth buik 'De legibus nautarum' [{i}dealing with sea law and other matters{/i}].

Bot I have followit ane other ordour, divyding the samen in six buiks alanerlie, in the quhilk I have interit the sevinth buik for seing th(at?) (the?) titills conteint in the sevinth buik ar thir:

Shiplawis. Frachting of schippis. Ladning of schippis. Of making of saill. Of custume of guids and shipwrak. Off arryving, dischargeing and lossing of shippis. Of hurt and harme done be ane ship to ane other. Of the fluid mark. Of ane letter of mark. Of actiouns and pleyis of shipmen. Of ferriars. Of the conservatour. Of the admirall, his office and iurisdictioun. Of the ordour of the Chancelarie. Of the interpretatioun of dyvers obscure wordis occurrand in the 'Maiestie' and in this buik and utheris evidentis in this realme [{i}= treatise 'De verborum significatione', see fol. 246v-218v{/i}]. They ar all conteinid in the thrid sectioun of this volume.

Nota, thair is na mentioun maid in this buik of the Counstables iurisdictioun. Qu(am?), et Maisterhoushald(er)is iurisdictioun, vide: Tract(atus) de feud(o) officiariorum.
