Decisiones curiae supremae Scotiae - Practicks 1611-1628

Decisiones curiae supremae Scotiae - Practicks 1611-1628 .

Different type of paper, and different handwriting. In the first half, many items are provided with abstracts, written in the margins, by a hand which also added dates to many undated items. The pagination shows that two leaves are lost at the beginning - as also evidenced by the fact that the numbering of items starts with number 25 (written in the inner margin). The hand which wrote the abstracts has corrected the numbering in many places. The numbering of items only reaches number 664, and the item is dated 1624/7/6 (page 183). This fact suggests that items with younger dates (= pages 289-325) derive from a different source.

The collection comprises several chronological series of items. These series do not follow a chronological order. I therefore deem that the scribe copied from a pile of loose fascicles of paper, meant to constitute one continuous chronological series, but they had gotten into disorder.

In several large series of items the individual cases are not dated. At some places, a dated line in large letters is inserted into the text, and the same date is obviously meant to also apply to the immediately following items. In other series of items, however, each item is dated individually. Furthermore, the hand which wrote the abstracts has also supplied dates for many items. Within the continuously dated series, some items with much later dates or even much earlier dates are interspersed. I deem that in the model MS these items were added in the margins.
