Tractatus de hominio .

Beautifully written by one scribe on one type of thick paper in large neat letters whose shapes largely differ from Scottish chancery handwriting and rather resemble shapes used on the European continent. I cannot date the handwriting more closely without analysing the watermark in detail - which would require special light and apparatus

Author(s):

  • Thomas Craig of Riccarton

No. of pages: Pag. 2-139

Rubric: De hominio disputationes tres adversus eos qui Scotiam feudum ligium Angliae regemque Scotorum eo nomine hominium Anglo debere asserunt

Incipit:

  • De primis Britannorum regibus, an his debitum vel praestitum hominium, disputatio prima. Aggressus sum ante biennium tractatum de usibus feudorum [{i}subsequent word cancelled by a stroke in much lighter ink:{/i} explicandum]; non quod ex mea opera iuri feudali lucis aut splendoris aliquid accessurum crederem

Explicit:

  • expurgare potest: spongia sola potest

Colophon: [{i}A different hand has added a mock verse in Greek letters, in lighter ink, making a mock of the name 'Holinschedius':{/i}] Holos schedios o holinschedios tayte ... oloschizetai
