Formularium Cancellariae Scotiae

Incipit:

  • Conductus ambaxiatoribus in [and then:] bona forma. Jacobus, etc., universis et singulis admirallis

Formularium Cancellariae Scotiae . Styles for the royal Chancery (largely documents for relations with foreign states).

No title. Contains copies of a selection of documents, most of them not dated. Also some other details are left out. Towards the end of the volume, a hand of the 19th century has written pencil notes in the margins, adding dates (1487, 1509, 1514) and references to Rymer's 'Foedera'. Since some of the documents were also confirmed in Parliament, the volume was used for the edition of Acts of Parliament (APS II, 1814). I deem that the volume was written in order to serve as a style book. This is also suggested by its small format, not appropriate for a register.

The volume starts with a series of passport texts, followed by special texts of power of attorney for ambassadors and other envoys who shall negotiate abroad a marriage contract for the young sovereign. The last substantial item is a copy of a document dated 1515/5/15. It is followed by an undated appendix
