The last year mentioned is 1560. Queen Mary of Scots is mentioned as being the wife of king Francis II of France. The author had thus not yet gotten notice of this French king's death (1560/12/5), so that this is a {i}terminus ante quem.{/i}.

And eftir hir deceiss he mareit Marie, dochter to the Duik of Gweiss, quha was sone to the Duik of Lorane. Quha gat upon hir tua sounis, quha deit baith in thair infantie, and ane dochter, callit Marie, quha succedit to the corun.

This James had six naturall sounis and ane dochter, callit Jane, quha was mareit on Bothevauld Erle of Argyle. The first of the sounis (wes) callit James, quha was commendatare of the abbayis of Kelso and Melross. The secund, callit James, commendatare of the priorie of the metropolitan kirk of Sanctandrois, and appeirand to him to ane greit honorabill temporall leving and dignitie. The thrid, callit Johne, commendatare of Coldinghame. The fourt, callit Robert, commendatare of Halyrudhous. The fyft, callit [{i}space left blank{/i}], quha was ane Charterhous monk. The sixt, callit Robert [{i}space left blank{/i}].

Marie succedit to James the fyft, hir father, and was mareit upone the secund François king of France
