Lectura Digestorum: (D.22-24; D.16. 3; D.13.7-8; D.18.1 - D.21.3; D.17.1; D.12.1) .

Lecture notes, entirely written in Latin. Although the two volumes of lecture notes are bound with flyleaves whose paper may have been produced in the region of Basel, this does not indicate that Sir Thomas Hope of Kerse sojourned there. Paper with crosier watermarks was also frequently used in the Netherlands.

(Vol. 2, fol. 305-330) A spot check search for quotations showed that mainly medieval authors are quoted, but also some 16th c. writers from Germany, France, Italy. Furthermore, frequent humanist references to classical authors: Cicero, Valerius Maximus, Aulus Gellius, etc.

(Vol. 2, fol. 316v:) the lecture notes quote Johannes Faber's commentary to the Institutiones, the glossator Azo Portius, Andreas Alciatus, Udalricus Zasius, Alexander Tartagnus, Philippus Decius.

(Vol. 2, fol. 317r:) Bartholomaeus Salicetus, Bartolus de Saxoferrato, Alexander Tartagnus.

The two volumes were probably written by four different hands, but they all used the same two types of paper. This shows that the entire series of lecture notes belongs together. Volume 2 has water damage on its lower rim and side rim, even holes in fol. 246. The handwriting shows some Scottish traits, and Scotland is mentioned in vol. 2, fol. 330r: 'Ergo sic, qui pecuniam alicui credit quem scit in Scotia usurum, non habet actionem dictae legis 'Si quis cum sciret' [D.41.4.8] ...'.

(Vol. 1 fol. 1r-286r) Start with De usuris [D.22.1]and end with D. 24.3.24.4.

(Vol. 1 fol. 287r-304v) Depositi vel contra [D.16.3], written by a different hand.

(Vol. 1 fol. 305r-380r) Commodati vel contra [D.13.7], and De pignoratitia actione [D.13.8], again by a different hand.

(Vol. 2 fol. 1r-315r) D.18.1 - D.21.3.3, written in a character differing from all three parts of volume 1, but there the handwriting fol. 305r ss. comes closest in character.

(Vol. 2 fol. 316r-362r) D.17.1.1-62, written by the same hand as in volume 1, fol. 287-304v.

(Vol. 2 fol. 363r-391v) D.12.1.1-42, written by probably the same hand as fol. 1r-315r
