Ius proprium Scotiae - Practicks (general digest of law, systematic) .
[{i}Title only supplied by a hand saec. XVIII:{/i}] Sir Robert Spotiswood's Practicks.
The text starts with the same items as Adv.MS.24.6.5. I therefore deem that the two MSS are closely related.
Modern foliation in pencil. Old pagination in ink 1-324, always in the right margin. Ink faded, therefore difficult to read. The fascicles of paper in this volume are unusually thin: fol. i-ii plus 1-4; 5-14; 15-16; 17-18; 19-27; 28-35; 36-43; 44-51 etc. Several fascicles comprise only one keyword. It thus appears that the scribe strived after the ideal of having separate fascicles for separate topics, so that new material could easily be added. This is also suggested by the fact that the scribe left much blank space at the end of each keyword. It appears that thecollection was in origin meant to be used as a loose unbound file of fascicles, because addition of supplementary material would then be much easier than in a bound volume.
The collection contains points of law, arranged under keyword titles which are not alphabetised. The individual items have no headings. They bear the date at their end (if at all), at times followed by the parties' (or advocates'?) names (if any). However, many points of law are neither dated, nor are parties' names mentioned. The selection of individual keywords appears to correspond to Adv.MS.24.6.5, but the order of such keywords only corresponds for some short series.
Many items have notes in the margin, in the colour of the main text, probably penned by the same scribe. Some of these notes add references to Jus Commune, others supply additional decisions, and many appear to cross-refer to parallel titles in Balfour's Practicks
