Ius proprium Scotiae - Treatise on seals of the royal Chancery

Rubric: Memoriall concerning the Royall Seals of Scotland. The king of that nation has four seals, videlicet (1) the Broad or Great Seale, (2) the Privy Seale, (3) the Signett Seale, (4) the Quarter Seale. There is also a Cashet which is the king's name engraven or cutt out in steel in imitation of his name as he writes it. These seals and cachet are kept by the following persons. The Great Seal and Cashet by the Lord Chancellor or Keeper. The Privy Seal by the officer of that name. The Signet Seal by the Secretary, and there is usually two of them, one of them kept at court and the other att Edinburgh. The Quarter Seal, which is the equall half of the broad seale, is kept by the Director of the Chancery.
