The preface of the edition 1774 was taken over, but in a second preface, signed 'A.F.T.', Alexander Fraser Tytler explains that he has enlarged the material of the previous edition by adding decisions from 1770 up to 1796. His edition thus comprises four volumes: the last two contain the decisions from 1770 to 1796, while the first two are supposed to be a reprint of the edition in two volumes of 1741
