Constitutiones extravagantes . Text 196 x 100 mm. Fol. 137-139 in paper. Watermark in fol. 139: Briquet 6088. Black ink. Red rubrics up to fol. 124r. Blue paragraph signs. No reclamants.

This collection of extravagantes includes papal letters from the period 1243-1464 and some conciliar decrees from the Councils of Constance and Florence. There seems to be no consistent principle of organization, although there is some grouping by pope. A rubric precedes each entry. The rubrics are either generic titles, as in the first entry (cited above), or they are specific descriptions of the contents of a particular letter or decree.

Some marginal glosses have been entered by the original scribe; these, for the most part, are summaries. A later scribe has noted in the margins references to the Extravagantes Johannis XXII and to the Extravagantes communes when these are applicable; in a few instances he has given references to the papal registers (e.g. fol. 120r). This same scribe has also on occasion entered other marginal notes giving the name of the pope who issued a particular letter of the council at which a decree was enacted. Other scribes have entered occasional marginal notes; one of these strains gives references to the commentaries of Johannes Andreae.

No edition exists of all the material in this collection. Many of the papal letters appear as part of the Extravagantes Johannis XXII of the Extravagantes communes; see Friedberg II cols. 1205-1312. The decrees of the Councils of Constance and Florence are printed in Mansi 27 cols. 519-1240 and 31 cols. 459-1060. For bibliography on late medieval collections of extravagantes see MS Vaticano, BAV, Vat. lat. 2548. And on this particular collection see Norman P. Zacour, 'Papal Regulation of Cardinals' Households in the Fourteenth Century,' Speculum 50 (1975) 438
