Informatio iuris : David Lindsay Earl of Crawford contra David Lindsay of Edzell

Informatio iuris: David Lindsay Earl of Crawford contra David Lindsay of Edzell , Knight, ca. 1580 ss.

A bifolium, reasonably carefully written in Scottish secretarial handwriting, yet very bleak and worn out on fol. 33r, and therefore quite difficult to read. The paper had been folded fourfold, and had probably been kept folded for some time. This can be seen because dirt accumulated along the folds.

The text contains many quotations from Jus Commune. It appears that the legal arguments in this case found attention in a wider public, so that this item circulated outside the parties' and the court's internal use. It is not dated. I have searched for other papers of the pertinent proceedings, found many of them in the archives of the Lindsay family, Earls of Crawford and Balcarres (chiefs of Clan Lindsay), and also transcribed many of them - for another forthcoming publication

No. of pages: Fol. 33r-34v
