xLetter by a father about his son's unpaid bills

xLetter by a father about his son's unpaid bills .

Strap of paper, torn from a letter in 18th c. handwriting. The father had obviously scribbled his answer onto the left margin of the creditor's letter, and only this part of the paper was torn off from the letter and preserved. We can thus only read the father's answer, and a part of the address, reading 'Mr. William Borbe [{i}remainder of line was torn off{/i}] Profisor of Laws [{i}remainder of line was torn off{/i}] University of Gla [{i}remainder of line was torn off, probably{/i}].

[{i}Text of the father's answer:{/i}] Sir, you might have spared your self the trouble of writing to me about my sons Bill you pretend to have for (waygt?) work some years ago. For I'll pay none of his Bills. Nor did I [{i}cancelled:{/i} meddle with any of the receits] any of his plenishing or effects. Mr. George Nicolson writer, his brother in law, meddled with all - which is a short answer from 8 - 16 - (...).

[{i}This is perhaps an independent note:{/i}] Of the which two years annualrent and of all annualrents of the two forsaid principall sums preceeding the re(spect)ive terms of Whitsunday and 4 June 1741, I hereby discharge the said Mr. James Erskin and Sir Hugh Paterson and other co-obligants, and oblige me to warrant this discharge at all hands as law will. In witness
