  • There is a degree of persons where the civill law makes mentione, and they are called bastards, who be the law of Scotland can neither bruik honour nor office, nor can make a testament, except they be legittimat be the king. Neither can they succeed to heretage be the breife of lyne. And if they be reabled be the king, the signatur of reabiliatione[!] is sett down as followes: Signatour of legittimatione. Our soverane Lord of his speciall love and favour ordeans an letter to be made under his Highness great seall in dew forme, 'to his Highness lovitt A. B., bastard sone naturall to umquhill D. B. of T. ...'
